Frequently Asked Questions
Airports
If you can, try to fly into John Wayne Airport (call letters SNA). It's about 20 minutes away; it's small and really easy to navigate. However, LAX being so large, ticket prices will be less there. My general rule of thumb is if the tickets are only $50 more, fly into John Wayne! The stress you will save in traffic and the stress of the larger airport is worth it.
My friends from Atlanta had a $250 difference, though, so they will get to see LA's picturesque highways. If you are not renting a car, a cab ride from John Wayne is probably about $50-60 to Dana Point. There are the Super Shuttle services, most of which require reservations. You can walk all over the harbor area, and there is plenty of shopping and dining to do sans automobile. If you want to go exploring or along the coast, then get a car. My mom's package (from Expedia, I think) was actually less expensive including the rental car. Ah, the days of modern travel...
Wedding Attire
Gentlemen:
Do not bring a suit! Not only will you be hot, but also you will be the only one so attired. Tracy and his groomsmen are wearing Tommy Bahama shirts and other members of the wedding party will be wearing blazers and khakis. There is actually a term here called "beach casual," and I think that's our goal.
Ladies:
Please wear a dress that will be comfortable! The wedding is outside, and barring a foggy day, it will be nice and sunny. Some of my friends have asked if it's okay to wear a sundress, and the answer is, "Yes."
The Rehearsal Barbeque
Come one, come all! We're eatin', y'all!
We are so happy that so many of you are joining us from out of town (and in town) and wanted to see you for more time than just the wedding and reception. So Friday evening (probably around 5) we are going to have a BBQ down at Capistrano Beach in the Doheny State Beach Park.
By car, you enter the park from Dana Point Harbor Drive and there is a $10 fee per car to enter. If walking or biking there is no fee. Then follow the park road to the very south end of the park where all of the cars are parked along the beach. (Locals call this "hole in the fence," but there isn't one, so don't spend too much time looking.) If you want to waive the $10 fee, you can take PCH south until you see the footbridge that crosses the highway. Park along the road and walk over the railroad tracks to find us.
When it comes closer to the date, I will figure out what balloon or flag or whatever to signal our location. I am also trying to make a small map.
A nice sunny day here may become a little cool after the sun goes down so a sweatshirt may be a good idea. The park does fill up quickly in the summer, so try to arrive before all the locals get off work!
